Sat 6th, Sunshine Coast to Mitchell

Day 1 finally arrives, the start of the big adventure! We're off to do the top end of W.A., the Bungle Bungle, Pilbara, Coral Coast, Dampier Peninsula and finally the Kimberley over 3 months.

We leave the Sunshine Coast at 8 am where it is cloudy and raining as usual and head off to Dalby to meet up with Jeff and Arloo (aka Helen), two of our travelling companions. Mike and Sue our other two travelling companions have already gone on to do the Stockman's Hall of Fame in Longreach and the plan is to catch up with them in Mt Isa.

The Dalby Coffee Club meet is off as J&A left a little late. We continue on to Miles where we have lunch and from there to Mitchell where we head to the Fisherman's Rest camping area 5 km past Mitchell. 617 km for the first day.

We text J&A the turn off location and start setting up camp near the boat launching ramp on the banks of the Maranoa River. Shortly after we are joined by J&A.

The camping area is quite pleasant, we enjoy a few sundowners on the banks of the river.

Lunch stop at Miles
