Today we packup and go out of the park to travel via Tom Price to Hamersley Gorge which is accessed from the western side of the park. We are now five days ahead of our original itinerary, plan is to spend the extra time on the beach.
In Tom Price we get the railway road pass from the visitors centre, see Chanel the daughter of one of our neighbours who is currently working in Tom Price, buy provisions, pick up some cask wine which is on sale without limits but is a bit $$$.
Love the Pilbara countryside, so much of it is really pretty. We get to the Hamersley Gorge turnoff around 2:00pm and debate what to do. We decide to go out to the Gorge and see what the info out there has to say about it as what we have been able to pick up from the Karijini Visitors Centre is very scant. There is a lookout at the Gorge but zero info, a walk down to the waterhole below is visible as are a few other tracks. With nothing to guide us and not a lot of time at our disposal we decide to give it a miss.
We go back out to the turnoff and setup camp on the gorge road just outside of the NP and opposite a truck marshalling bay and setup a bush camp. A number of trucks come in without dogs or trailers and park in the bay.
